Planting:
Location:
Choose a spot with at least 6-8 hours of sunlight per day, avoiding areas with hot southern exposure that could cause early bud opening.
Soil:
Ensure well-drained soil, adding organic matter if needed. Magnolias prefer slightly acidic soil.
Planting Hole:
Dig a hole twice the width and slightly deeper than the root ball.
Planting:
Gently remove the magnolia from its container, loosen the root ball, and place it in the hole. Ensure the top of the root ball is level with the ground.
Backfill and Mulch:
Fill the hole with soil, firming gently to remove air pockets. Add a 2-3 inch layer of mulch around the base, keeping it away from the trunk.
